Student Corner

The 2007 conference was a great success. It was great
to see many of you there. I was especially impressed
with the posters at this year’s conference. I am always
amazed at the amount of diversity in interests in our
student population.
Although it seems like we just left this year
conference, the planning for the 2008 conference is well
under way. As a student I believe that students have
important ideas, which can benefit these conferences,
because of this, I would like to give you the
opportunity to have some input into next year’s
conference. Specifically, the conference planning
committee would be interested in hearing what you have
to say about how conferences have been done in the past
and what you might like to see in the future. I will
address a new way of communicating with me and the board
in this article, but you can always email or call me
with your ideas. My contact info is at the bottom of
this article.
I am extremely happy to announce that MAMFT’s website
has under gone some drastic changes. One of the new
Board members, Chris Latty, has put a great deal of
time, effort and resources into this new site. The site
is still
www.michiganfamilytherapy.org. Please go and
check it out, there are new features and a lot more
helpful information on this site. One of the best
features of this site is the student discussion
board. If you haven’t used discussion threads, or web
posts before, there’s nothing to it! And the directions
are on the website. We are extremely proud to say that
Michigan is one of very few MFT state associations to
offer this resource to students.
The Student Discussion Board is going to be a great
way for students to stay in contact across the state. I
would suggest that you take a minute of your time to
post a hello, and introduce yourself to other students.
This feature is also a great way to have contact with
the board. You can post questions for other students,
and for the board on this site. Also, I will be checking
this discussion board regularly, so if you have
questions, please ask them, and if I can’t answer them
directly I will raise that question at the next board
meeting and get back to you.
Here are a few suggestions for how this feature can
be used:
- Posting questions about professional practice,
or student programs.
- Posting information that may be of interest to
other MFT students in Michigan
- Posting questions regarding MAMFT issues.
I would also suggest that you look at this board
occasionally, as I will be posting information about
issues facing students, and important opportunities and
events for students.
As you can tell I am really excited about the
potential this feature offers. But I have to ask that
you be patient with us as this is a new thing for us,
and we may experience some unexpected bumps in the
road. You will also notice that when you go to this site
it is open to the general public, so your postings will
not, as of yet, be limited to just student members. If
you do encounter any issues with this site please let me
know.
